Cohen's fifth album (released by Warner Bros. in 1977) was produced and co-written by Phil Spector. The duo managed to write 15 songs in just three weeks together but only eight made the final cut of the album. The combination of Spector's famous Wall Of Sound, a general sense of loose fun in the studio and the unbridled sexuality and voyeurism of the lyrics certainly represents a big step forward. At the same time, Death Of A Ladies' Man both lyrically and stylistically is one of Cohen's career peaks, maybe even a masterpiece. Bob Dylan and Allen Ginsberg sang backup vocals on the chorus of the classic "Don't Go Home With Your Hard-On".
