On this sophomore effort GoGo Penguin really showcase their potential. The mix of different styles, most notable the use of drum ‘n bass beats brings a much needed breath of fresh air into the jazz trio. The album is quite concise, but the songs are well-balanced and quite cohesive. V2 never becomes boring. On the contrary, the structure of the songs keep your attention where it needs to be. Although there are plenty of solo’s on this album, they never become tedious. Most importantly, the album sounds vibrant yet controlled, exuberant but not chaotic. Especially noteworthy are Murmuration, Hopopono and One Percent.
