Recorded at JC/DC Studios by Dave Carswell and John Collins, with Colin Stewart handling additional recording and mixing at Gallupe Manor and Vogville Studios, Fables shows another dimension of the Immaculate Machine sound. Warm reverb envelops the songs, capturing the feel of classic '60s recordings – a time when the source of the sound and the feel of the room exceeded the desire for the unnecessary overdubbing of so many of today's recordings. These dulcet sounds represent Immaculate Machine at its best: intimate, personal and urgent compositions with a focus on the interplay between a tightly knit trio of close friends. The members are adept at reading the next move within a song, creating subtly dynamics that are so rewardingly apparent to the listener.
