Judy's first album under her new contract with Capitol Records. Capitol was founded by Judy's old friend and former duet partner Johnny Mercer. Like Judy, he was also with Decca Records in the 1930's & 40's. Judy would remain with Capitol Records until 1964.
Miss Show Business was a tie-in to Judy's first television special, the Ford Star Jubilee Miss Show Business which aired on CBS-TV from 9:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. the night of September 24, 1955. The special was hugely successful, earning Emmy nominations for Best Variety Series and Best Female Singer. The winners were "The Ed Sullivan Show" and Dinah Shore respectively.
To promote the album, Capitol distributed a 45 RPM record to radio stations and reviewers containing two cuts from the album "After You've Gone" and "Rock-A-Bye Your Baby With A Dixie Melody." The 45 is now a rare collectible.
According to studio records, Judy also recorded On The Atchison, Topeka & The Santa Fe. Recorded on August 30, 1955, it was given the matrix number 14366, meaning it was planned to be positioned after A Pretty Girl Milking Her Cow. This recording has yet to surface.
The album peaked at No. 5 on Billboard's Best Selling Pop Albums chart and was in Top 40 for seven weeks.
