Prokofiev collected music from his late film scores and ballets (including Cinderella) to create a very melodic and adventurous suite. The BIG dynamic range of the work required a simple, minimal recording. This world-premiere 1959 recording of the Symphonic Suite of Waltzes is a large orchestra recording the way it was meant to be.
Conductor Hans Schwieger takes the Kansas City Philharmonic through the work both playfully and mischievously, bringing an immediacy and soul to a rarely recorded work.
Included is Prokofiev's Gypsy Fantasy, from the same sessions as Waltzes and a former member of the TAS List of great recordings. One listen to this amazing 180-gram LP and you will see why!
