Jesse Fuller (1896-1976) had two careers in show business. He had appeared as an extra in several silent films, including 1924's "The Thief of Bagdad" but it was the sound of Jesse Fuller that, aftter years of working as a laborer, finally put him in the spolight. Late in life, he proved a hit on the international folk music circuit with his remarkable one-man band routine. This number he's initally cut during his recording debut nine years earlier- "San Francisco Bay Blues." His most beloved composition, it was also recorded by such artists as Ramblin' Jack Elliot, The Weavers, Tom Rush, Peter, Paul and Mary, Janis Joplin, and Phoebe Snow, Bob Dylan still sings it when he gets the urge.
