Bold new steeped in experimental, American roots music
For her fifth studio album, Jolie Holland has taken her traditional American song stylings and blended them with more modern technology, like electricity. Though Holland worked with a slew of traditional New York jazz musicians on the record, she also collaborated with some experimental music veterans, particularly ones who’ve worked with Butch Morris, Anthony Coleman, and Steven Bernstein. The self-produced LP attempts to blend country, soul, jazz, and blues, all while staying modern and contemporary.
